Canadian Seasons

By Mrs. Whitby's Grade 1 Class

Canada has four exciting seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter.  Each season has different temperatures so we wear different clothes and do many fun and exciting outdoor activities.  Mrs. Whitby's grade 1 class wrote poems for each season to tell you what each season is like.

Spring

In spring flowers grow. In spring we can pick strawberries. You can go butterfly catching in spring. Animals wake up from hibernation. We can go for walks in spring. In spring we wear lighter clothes. We wear spring jackets. Sometimes we wear rain boots and rain coats. The temperature warms up, the snow melts and we have lots of rain. We can play in the rain puddles. We can fly kites in the spring. Spring is a time of change.  Spring begins the third week in March and ends the third week in June.

Summer

In the summer the temperature goes up and the weather gets hot.  In the summer you can go to the beach and go swimming.  You can wear sandals, tee-shirts, skirts and shorts.  In the summer you can go on picnics and play outside.  People can ride bikes and play on waterslides.  In the summer we do not go to school.  Children can go to summer camps.  In the summer we can go to Canada's Wonderland and go on the rides.  In the summer we can eat watermelon, Popsicles, mangos, drink lemonade and have out door barbeques.  Summer is a fun, happy season!  Summer begins the third week in June and ends the third week in September.

Autumn

In the autumn, leaves on trees change their colour.  Green leaves turn orange, red and yellow.  Then the leaves fall off the trees.  Another name for autumn is fall.  Its fun to rake and play in the leaves after they fall.  Animals begin to hibernate in the fall and squirrels gather nuts for the winter.  Birds fly south to warmer weather.  Fall is a time for apple picking.  We wear warmer clothes in the fall.  Summer flowers die and in the morning there is frost on the grass.  Sometimes in the fall it is so cold that we have snow!  Fall is a beautiful season of change.  Fall begins the third week in September and ends the third week in December.

Winter

In winter it snows.  You can play in the snow.  It is lots of fun!!!  You can make snowballs, snow forts and snowmen.  In winter you can go skating, snowboarding and skiing.  In winter we wear warm clothes.  We wear mittens, scarves, coats, boots, hats and snow pants.  Sometimes if it is very cold outside, we have indoor recess.  In winter we have a two week break from school.  Some people go to warm places to vacation.  You can drink hot cocoa in winter.  Winter is a cold, fun-filled season!  Winter begins the third week in December and ends the third week in March.
