Our Community

By Mrs. Hirsh-Wax's Grade 1 class

Building our community structures

We built houses and buildings to make a model of our community. We wonder if our community is like some of the other children’s from Friends and Flags.

We used Popsicle sticks to build our houses

Some of us live in apartment buildings. Some of us live in houses or townhouses. Our houses are made of bricks to help keep us warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

We had a lot of fun building our structures!

We went on a walk to discover what was around our community.

We are all dressed warmly for winter. Wait until you see all the snow!

Outside of our school, the Canadian Flag flies. It was so windy that you can’t see the Canadian Maple Leaf! Under that flag is the flag for our school board. It is called the York Region District School Board. There are a lot of schools in our board!

This is the front of our school, Doncrest Public School

This is a picture of our class outside the skating rink. We come here to skate in the winter. You have to wear a helmet when you skate in order to be safe.

Here are some pictures of grade 5 students skating.

See that big dome in the background? There are tennis courts inside. That way people in our community can play tennis even in the COLD winter!
In the spring and summer we like to play outside at the park, or in the soccer field. On really warm days we might go swimming in a swimming pool. We wish it was April or May so we could take pictures of when it is warm, but we hope you will come to visit us!
